Overview
UV Editor is a function for arranging and optimizing UV islands for texture mapping.
The arranged UV layout is used as the basis for texture baking and export.
Location
2D view> 2D Menu > UV editor
Operation Method
Pack UV Automatically
- Click UV Editor from the 2D Menu
- Click Packing settings... to configure the packing options
- Click Auto pack to arrange the UV islands automatically
(UV islands are rearranged to minimize empty space within the UV space)
Adjust Packing Settings
- Click Packing settings...
- Enter the Margin value
- Check Allow 90° rotation to allow UV islands to rotate by 90° while packing
- Click Ok to apply the settings
Fit and Reset UV
- Click Fit all UV to 0~1 to scale all UV islands to fit within the 0–1 UV space.
- Click Reset UV to 2D arrangement to reset the UV layout to match the current 2D pattern arrangement.
Export UV
- Click Export.
- Select OBJ or FBX to export the UV data in the selected format.
- Specify the path to save the file.
- In the Export window, select Use UV layout under UV coordinate to export the model using the current UV arrangement
- Click OK to export
Bake Textures
- Click Bake textures...
- Specify the path to save the file.
- Set the desired options in the Bake textures window.
- Click OK to bake the texture onto the UV layout
Components
Auto pack
Auto pack automatically arranges UV islands within the UV space to minimize empty space
Packing settings
Packing settings option is for configuring the parameters used when packing UV islands
- Margin: Sets the minimum spacing between UV islands, in millimeters
- Allow 90° rotation: Allows UV islands to rotate by 90° while packing
Fit all UV to 0~1
Fit all UV to 0~1 option scales all UV islands to fit within the 0–1 UV space
Reset UV to 2D arrangement
Reset UV to 2D arrangement option resets the UV layout to match the current 2D pattern arrangement
Arrange 2D by UV
Arrange 2D by UV option rearranges the 2D pattern layout based on the current UV positions
Export
Export option is for exporting the UV data to a file
Selecting OBJ or FBX opens the Export window, which includes the UV coordinate option
UV coordinate option decides how the UV data is applied to the exported model
- Use UV layout: Exports the model using the current UV arrangement made in the UV Editor
Bake textures
Bake textures option is for baking a texture onto the current UV layout
- Output resolution: Sets the pixel resolution of the baked texture
- Maps: Selects which texture maps to bake (Base color, Roughness, Normal, Specular, Opacity, Metallic, Displacement, Occlusion, Anisotropy)
- Overlays: Selects which overlay elements to include in the baked texture (Logo, Buttonhole, Stitch)
- Transparent background: Bakes the texture with a transparent background
